Objectives

(A) Work to prevent and control tuberculosis and lung disease as well as other related health problems in Singapore and other countries within the Asia pacific region, with a particular emphasis on low and middle income countries; (B) Promote national autonomy with the framework of the priorities of Singapore and other countries within the Asia Pacific region by developing, implementing and assessing anti-tuberculosis and respiratory health programmes; (C) Gather and disseminate knowledge on all aspects of tuberculosis and lung disease and resulting community health problems and their control within Singapore and other countries within the Asia pacific region; (D) Alert doctors, decision makers, leaders of opinion and the general public of Singapore and other countries within the Asia Pacific region to the dangers presented by tuberculosis and lung disease and the resulting community health problems; (E) Coordinate, assist and promote the work of the Company s associated organisations, including The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease; (F) Establish and maintain contact with the central and/or regional offices of international organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and such other United Nations organisations and governmental and non-governmental institutions and networks in the health and development sectors, in particular those of countries within the Asia Pacific region as may be concerned with some or all of the objectives of the Company; (G) Act regionally to promote in all respects the objectives of the Company; (H) Foster cooperation between different countries and geographical areas within the Asia Pacific region through existing national organisations concerned with the objectives of the Company; (I) Encourage and assist in the formation of similar organisations such as the Company in Asia Pacific countries where none exists; (J) Stimulate scientific research into all aspects of tuberculosis, HIV, lung health, and non-communicable diseases as mentioned above; and (K) Do all such other things as are incidental to or conducive to the attainment of the above objects or any of them.

With nearly 10,000 members and subscribers from 145 countries, The Union has its headquarters in Paris and regional and country offices serving the Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, North America and South-East Asia regions. Its scientific departments focus on tuberculosis, HIV, lung health and non-communicable diseases, tobacco control and research. Each department engages in research, provides technical assistance and offers training and other capacity-building activities leading to health solutions for the poor.
